چکیده

In this chapter we will discuss some sampling and estimation techniques that have been developed for special purposes. More specifically, we will first discuss some sampling methods that have been developed for use in health surveys conducted in developing countries, and then examine techniques that have been used in developed countries in order to meet special needs. The World Health Organization (WHO), through its Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), aims to ensure the availability of immunization to all children of the world by the year 1990. As part of this program, it has developed methodology for estimating, by use of relatively quick and inexpensive sample surveys, immunization levels of children in areas that would be targeted for special immunization programs if the immunization levels were low. The methodology makes use of a modification of probability proportional to size (PPS) sampling developed originally in the United States [I] and later modified for use in the Smallpox Eradication Program in West Africa [2]. Although it can be adopted to meet other objectives, the major objectives of an EPI survey is to estimate the immunization coverage (i.e., the proportion of children having all their required immunizations) in a given target area (this could be a village, town, city, etc.). Over the years, the practice evolved in these surveys of selecting 30 sample clusters and 7 children within each cluster, which would yield a sample size of 210 children. In fact, these surveys became referred to as "30 x 7" surveys. Although hundreds of these "30 x 7" surveys have been conducted, the rationale for the choice of the sample size is rather unusual. Assuming that 50%

Fundamentals of 3D modelling and resource estimation in coal mining

The prerequisite of maintaining an efficient and safe mining operation is the proper design of a mine by considering all aspects. The first step in a coal mine design is a realistic geometrical modelling of the coal seam(s). The structural features such as faults and folding must be reliably implemented in 3D seam models. Upon having a consistent seam model, the attributes such as calorific val...

Students' patterns of interaction with a mathematics intelligent tutor: Learning analytics application

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to determine potential identifiers of students’ academic success in foundation mathematics course by analyzing the data logs of an intelligent tutor. Design/ methodology/approach: A cross-sectional study design was used. A sample of 58 records was extracted from the data-logs of the intelligent tutor, ALEKS. This data was triangulated with the data collecte...

A Robust Adaptive Observer-Based Time Varying Fault Estimation

This paper presents a new observer design methodology for a time varying actuator fault estimation. A new linear matrix inequality (LMI) design algorithm is developed to tackle the limitations (e.g. equality constraint and robustness problems) of the well known so called fast adaptive fault estimation observer (FAFE). The FAFE is capable of estimating a wide range of time-varying actuator fault...

A Design Methodology for Reliable MRF-Based Logic Gates

Probabilistic-based methods have been used for designing noise tolerant circuits recently. In these methods, however, there is not any reliability mechanism that is essential for nanometer digital VLSI circuits. In this paper, we propose a novel method for designing reliable probabilistic-based logic gates. The advantage of the proposed method in comparison with previous probabilistic-based met...

Determining the Sample size for Estimation of the CCC-R Control Chart Parameters Based on Estimation Costs

In today's highly competitive industrial environment due to fast technology development, quality practitioners will to detect out-of-control situations and take actions whenever is necessary as soon as possible. Accordingly, new statistical procedures have been enhanced incessantly both to handle high yield processes along with looking for methods of minimizing all quality cost. CCC-r chart, th...
